A Collector's Journey
Welcome to lionsgameday.com, a collection rooted in family tradition and a lifelong connection to Detroit Lions football.
My father began attending Lions home games in 1960, often recalling how he would be nearly alone in the end zone during bitterly cold games such as the 1960 Dallas Cowboys matchup. He held season tickets from 1960 through 1974, spanning an era when football at Tiger Stadium was defined by outdoor grit and loyal fans. When the team moved to the Pontiac Silverdome, he chose not to renew his tickets, firmly believing that football belonged outdoors—an opinion that would evolve over time.
During those early years, a close friend of his, a singer in a Detroit-area band, had connections with Lions players. After home victories, they would occasionally enter the locker room to visit with the team, experiences that further deepened my father's connection to the game. From nearly every game he attended, he brought home a program. Some have been lost over time, others were never purchased, but many remain and form the foundation of this collection.
After the move to the Silverdome, my father and I continued to attend games together on occasion, including memorable moments such as the 1992 playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. When the Lions announced their return to Detroit to play at Ford Field, he made the decision that we would once again become season ticket holders. Unfortunately, that plan was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in September 2002.
This is a personal collection. I am an independent collector and enthusiast. Every program displayed here has been carefully acquired and preserved as part of my private collection. I take great pride in maintaining these pieces of football history for future generations to appreciate.
Carrying forward his vision, I was fortunate to secure season tickets alongside three high school friends. We have held those tickets since Ford Field's inaugural season and continued building the program collection. Every program represented here corresponds to a game attended by my father, by me, or by both of us together.
This collection is more than memorabilia—it is a documented history of Detroit Lions football, preserved one game day at a time.
